About Sugaring
People tend to associate sugaring with waxing because they’re both hair removal techniques that lift hair from the root, as opposed to shaving, which only removes hair from the surface layer of the skin.
Despite the similarities, there are some key differences between sugaring and waxing.
With sugaring, the sugar is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth and then removed the same direction as hair growth. With waxing, the wax is applied in the same direction of hair growth and removed in the opposite direction. Because of this, the results can differ greatly.
Wax is hot and may cause irritation on the skin. Sugar is room temperature and natural so less irritation if any.

Sugaring Wax Benefits
- Results last three to five weeks
- Appointments every four to six weeks
(1+ weeks of hair growth for sugar to adhere to) - Overtime hair growth is reduced or stops
- Hair becomes finer and thinner
- Water-soluble unlike wax
- Gentler and less irritation than wax
Sugaring Wax Technique
Sugaring is the removal of hair via sugar paste, a gel-like substance, no paper strips needed. Hair removal sugar is made with organic ingredients that are biodegradable and hypoallergenic. Sugaring paste is an all natural process that penetrates your hair follicles and removes hair by the root without effecting the surrounding skin. Regular sugaring can reduce and discourage hair growth overtime because the hair is entirely removed from the root – creating finer thinner hair.
Sugaring Process
- Your skin are that is being sugared is cleaned with a gentle cleanser
- Powder is applied on the area to provide a protective barrier between the skin and the paste
- The technician molds the paste in their hands to warm it up and make it easier to work with
- They rub the warm paste against your hair growth
- The technician pulls the hairs up with the paste, in the same direction as the hair growth
- Steps 3–5 are repeated until the area is clear
